Acupuncture for Fertility & Pregnancy

Acupuncture can help regulate the production of fertility hormones

Acupuncture is becoming a popular choice for couples who are trying for a baby, as it is a natural alternative to hormone treatment and has no side effects.

According to the British Acupuncture Council, acupuncture has been shown to help regulate the production of fertility hormones by promoting the release of beta-endorphin in the brain.

It is also know to increase the blood flow to the ovaries as well as the uterus, therefore enhancing the environment in which ovarian follicles develop, and improving the thickness of the endometrial lining and increasing the chances of embryo implantation.

Acupuncture Can Help Pregnant Women Manage Their Morning Sickness

Acupuncture is a safe therapy which doesn't involve any drugs, so expectant mothers can have it throughout pregnancy without fear of any side effects. Generally it can boost your energy levels and help you sleep better.

More specifically, according to a doctor who conducted a study on effects of acupuncture, women now have an additional option to manage their morning sickness; even one session can significantly reduce the severity of morning sickness. It also helps relieve indigestion and heartburn during pregnancy. Please read "Acupuncture Fights Morning Sickness".

Acupuncture Can Promote Natural Childbirth

In later stage of pregnancy, acupuncture can also be used to prepare women for labour and promote natural childbirth. Research shows that acupuncture have positive effects not only on the duration but also the efficiency of labour.

A group of women who received acupuncture on a weekly basis from week 36/37 onwards not only had a shorter time of labour on average, but also experienced less complications which required emergency medical interventions, compared to those who didn't have acupuncture during pregnancy.
